Shortly
after midnight poison gas leaked from a factory in Bhopal, India,
owned by the Union Carbide Corporation. There was no warning, none
of the plant's safety systems were working. In the city people woke
in darkness to screams with the gases burning their eyes and lungs.
Whole neighbourhoods fled in panic, many people were trampled, others
convulsed and fell dead. People lost control of their bowels and
bladders as they ran. Within hours thousands of dead bodies lay
in the streets. Read
a survivor's account of "that night". More background
here.

Contributing
artwork, poetry, writing, film, video, photography or music to the
Bhopal.FM website.
Out
of the shanty towns of Bhopal has come a remarkable flowering of
arts and sciences and we have set up www.bhopal.fm to bring some
of that work to the world.
We
also welcome contributions from those around the world who support
our struggle and here is how you can send your work.
Guidelines
for contributers
Before
submitting a piece to Bhopal.FM please send
us an email describing your work and telling us a little about
yourself.
In all cases the work you submit should be your own, not under copyright
to anyone else. Please confirm this in your email and also that
you would like us to feature the piece on Bhopal.FM.
We
are unable to pay fees to contributors, if you require a fee, please
do not submit your work.
Works
are accepted for publication on Bhopal.FM at the discretion of the
editor, we will not publish work considered to be defamatory, obscene,
or otherwise unsuitable and will not enter
into correspondence about work deemed unsuitable for publication.
Please
remember that we have no way to prevent other people downloading
your work from our site and publishing it elsewhere, so if this
is a problem, do not send it. We do not display individual copyright
notices, but state on the site that the copyright of each piece
remains with its author the contributor.
Please
submit your work in the following formats:
Poems,
stories, articles, interviews, or any other form of writing
should be sent preferably as plain text (ie not a Microsoft Word
file). If the work includes pictures and the formatting is important
you can send it to us as html files.
Photographs
should be formatted for the web before sending and should be no
more than 800pixels wide. Use Photoshop's "Save for Web"
option to reduce the "weight" of files.
Music
and sound
should preferably be in mp3 format, or another format capable of
being streamed. If the file is very large, it might be better to
send us a CD in which case please email
us for a postal address.
Film
and video
needs to be digitised before being streamed from our website. If
you can do this yourself and submit the piece on CD or DVD, so much
the better. Otherwise we may be able to have it digitised.
