Sambhavna Trust Clinic gets
MEAD2001 award

Sambhavna
Trust Clinic, engaged in the medical care of the survivors
of December '84 gas disaster has recently been awarded the
international MEAD2001 award.
The Institute of Intercultural Studies, New York and Whole
Earth Magazine, San Francisco, of the centennial of Margaret
Mead, presented the award.
Informing this at a press conference here today, Dr. M S deshpande
and other members of the Clinic said the Sambhavna Trust was
given this award for exemplifying Margaret Mead's famous words;
"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful; committed
citizens can change the world."
He said the small group of 25 staff members of the clinic
were involved in the medical care, health monitoring and community
health of the survivors since September 1996. Run with donations
from people in India and abroad, the clinic provided free
medical care through Allopathic, Ayurveda [indigenous system
of medicine based mainly on herbs], yoga and panchakarma he
said.
Earlier in 1999 Sambhavna had received an international award
from the Tajiri Muneaki Foundation. In 2001 Sambhavna Trust
was presented the "Inner Flame award " by the Governor
of Madhya Pradesh. Sambhavna is the only organization to have
received Mead 2001 award. Seven international organizations
have been given this award so far.
Members of the clinic further said they would be organizing
an exhibition and cultural evening on October 27 to mark the
successful completion of six years of the clinic. The function
will be held in Bafna Colony near Qazi camp where the new
building of the Clinic is coming up.
The exhibition would be on the effects of Carbide's poisons
and their treatment and activities of the Sambhavna Clinic.
Interesting games for children such as "Break the wall
of indifference" is also being organized.
Sambhavna members have extended an invitation to Bhopal residents
to this exhibition.
