Sambhavna Trust Clinic gets MEAD2001 award
HT Correspondent
Bhopal, October 20

Sambhavna Trust Clinic, engaged in the medical care of the survivors of December '84 gas disaster has recently been awarded the international MEAD2001 award.
The Institute of Intercultural Studies, New York and Whole Earth Magazine, San Francisco, of the centennial of Margaret Mead, presented the award.
Informing this at a press conference here today, Dr. M S deshpande and other members of the Clinic said the Sambhavna Trust was given this award for exemplifying Margaret Mead's famous words; "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful; committed citizens can change the world."
He said the small group of 25 staff members of the clinic were involved in the medical care, health monitoring and community health of the survivors since September 1996. Run with donations from people in India and abroad, the clinic provided free medical care through Allopathic, Ayurveda [indigenous system of medicine based mainly on herbs], yoga and panchakarma he said.
Earlier in 1999 Sambhavna had received an international award from the Tajiri Muneaki Foundation. In 2001 Sambhavna Trust was presented the "Inner Flame award " by the Governor of Madhya Pradesh. Sambhavna is the only organization to have received Mead 2001 award. Seven international organizations have been given this award so far.
Members of the clinic further said they would be organizing an exhibition and cultural evening on October 27 to mark the successful completion of six years of the clinic. The function will be held in Bafna Colony near Qazi camp where the new building of the Clinic is coming up.
The exhibition would be on the effects of Carbide's poisons and their treatment and activities of the Sambhavna Clinic. Interesting games for children such as "Break the wall of indifference" is also being organized.
Sambhavna members have extended an invitation to Bhopal residents to this exhibition.
