ICJB’s Submission to the UN Special Rapporteur on Toxics and Human Rights

On 29th March 2024, The International Campaign for Justice in Bhopal made a submission to the UN Special Rapporteur on Toxics and Human Rights, Dr. Marcos A. Orellana. The submission highlighted the ongoing impacts faced by women survivors and next generations of the 1984 Bhopal Gas Tragedy due to exposure to the gas and to contaminated ground water. 39th Anniversary: Survivors Demand Compensation, Commission on Bhopal and Punishment For the Guilty Corporations

Hundreds of members of five organizations of survivors of the Union Carbide gas disaster in Bhopal today marched with torches to honour those killed by the disaster. The torchlight procession ended at the foot of the statue of the Mother, a memorial built opposite the abandoned pesticide factory. The leaders of the organizations presented their demands amid chants of “Mourn for the Dead Fight for the Living.”

On the 39th Anniversary, Survivor Orgs Condemn Attempts of Dept of Gas Relief to close down the Dept.

Addressing a press conference on the occasion of the 39th Anniversary of the Union Carbide disaster in Bhopal, leaders of five survivors’ organizations celebrated their recent victory in making Dow Chemical appear in the Bhopal court. The leaders strongly condemned attempts by the Minister and officials of the Department of Bhopal Gas Tragedy Relief & Rehabilitation to close down the department. The organizations congratulated the artists and makers of the series “The Railwaymen” for a powerful telling of the story of the disaster and its aftermath.

Dow lawyers fill Bhopal court in criminal liability case, Railway Men series still being written, says Bhopal group

Press Statement, Bhopal, November 25.

In the court of Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC), Vidhan Maheshwari, a group of 10 lawyers appeared today on behalf of Dow Chemical to deny that, by this appearance, Dow was accepting the jurisdiction of the court.

The criminal proceedings, from which Carbide has been a proclaimed absconder for 31 years, concern the culpable homicide of thousands arising from Dow subsidiary Union Carbide’s 1984 gas disaster in Bhopal.
