Bhopal gas tragedy survivors to begin indefinite fast at Jantar Mantar from Monday

BHOPAL : A group of survivors of Bhopal gas tragedy will start an indefinite fast at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi from Monday. Pressing their demand for additional compensation for all survivors and correction of data in the curative petition filed in the Supreme Court by the centre, a delegation of victims left Bhopal for Delhi on Sunday. Five women survivors will join the strike.

Balkrishna Namdeo, president of the Bhopal Gas Peedit Nirashrit Pension Bhogee Sangharsh Morcha, said “We decided to take our protest to New Delhi after the betrayal of chief minister. We have also been trying to seek an appointment from prime minister for the last two months but in vain”.

Safreen, who founded the organization of children born after the disaster, said, “Madhya Pradesh chief minister had promised us in writing that he will join our delegation for a meeting with the prime minister on the issue of compensation for the gas disaster”.
