At a Press Conference today, leaders of four organisations of the survivors of the Union Carbide disaster in Bhopal charged Minister Vishwas Sarang of misusing funds meant for economic and social rehabilitation of the survivors. The organisations presented copies of documents obtained under right to information from the Department of Bhopal Gas Tragedy Relief and Rehabilitation that show that close to 60 % of the funds meant for providing employment to survivors and their children have been diverted to build drains, roads and parks. Likewise, documents show that almost one third of the funds meant for housing of residents in the vicinity of the Union Carbide factory is also being diverted for the same purpose.

At a Press Conference today, leaders of four organizations of survivors of the Union Carbide disaster in Bhopal charged the Bhopal Municipal Corporation of submitting a false affidavit to the Supreme Court of India regarding quality of drinking water. They said that a formal complaint with proof of wrongdoing was submitted to the Chief Secretary more than a month back but there has been no response till date.

At a press conference today, four organizations of survivors of the Union Carbide disaster in Bhopal claimed that compensation for the disaster would be a central issue in the ensuing elections in 5 out of 7 Bhopal constituencies. Five local officials of BJP and Indian National Congress present at the press conference supported the organisations’ call to all survivors of the disaster to remain united on the issue of compensation when casting their votes in a few months.

The resolutions describe increasing shareholder concern that management is mishandling the ongoing Bhopal controversy and call on DowDuPont to disclose the cost of this controversy upon the company’s reputation, finances, and its ability to invest in expanding Asian markets.

At a press conference today, leaders of organisations of survivors of the 1984 Union Carbide gas disaster in Bhopal expressed distress at the apathy of the state and central governments towards the imminent possibility of the US Corporation escaping criminal liability for the disaster forever.
The organisations said that Dow Chemical, the owner of Union Carbide, after merging with another American multinational DuPont has announced plans to split up in to three entities by June 2019. According to them, Union Carbide that is absconding from grave criminal charges, including culpable homicide, for the last 26 years will, as per criminal law, cease to be criminally liable following the trifurcation.
