Destitute women demonstrate, court arrest

BHOPAL JANUARY 28: Protesting against non-fulfillment of their various demands, a large number of destitute women pensioners organised a rally and courted arrest here on Thursday.

Nirashrit Pension Bhogi Sangharsh Morcha, Bhopal - an organisation working for destitute pensioners organised the demonstration. It was led by morcha leader Balkrishna Namdeo.

Demonstrators assembled at Yadgar-e-shahjehani park at 12 pm and took out a rally. As soon as the rally reached near Vidhan Sabha the police arrested the demonstrators. Earlier in a scuffle with the police some of the women demonstrators fell on the road.

The main demands of the pensioners include increase in monthly pension amount from Rs 150 to 200; pension to all the oldage people, widowed and divorced women and orphaned children; provision of free of charge 10kg foodgrain to the destitutes having blue ration card; regular disbursement of pension through nationalised banks or the post offices; issuance of photographed pension identity cards; inclusion of destitute pensioners' name in below poverty line list etc.

Prominent among those who participated in the demonstration include Ms Akhtar Jehan Begum, Badar Alam Chand, Narayan Prasad Soni, Ms Malti Shrivastava, Ms Kausar Jehan, Ms Sona Bai, Ms Janki Tiwari, Ms Girija Yadav, Ms Mungiya Raidas, Hardeo Prasad Narvariya and Sitaram. People from Bhopal, Indore, Ujain, Dewas, Shujalpur, Itarsi, Hoshangabad, Vidisha, Mandideep, Raisen, Betul, Sehore and Khanda districts participated in the rally.
