Gas victim colony neglected: Sangathan

BHOPAL JANUARY 28: Bhopal Gas Peedit Mahila Udyog Sangathan has alleged that the Gas Relief and Rehabilitation Department< Bhopal Municipal Corporation and Madhya Pradesh Housing Board have closed their eyes towards the various problems facing the gas victim residents at rehabilitation colony at Berasia.

Sangathan convenor Abdul Jabbar has said that sewer lines and water supply lines and water supply lines in the colony have got damaged resulting in polluting of potable water. as a result people are falling victims to many diseases. he alleged that in spite of repeated reminders to the various agencies involved in the development of the colony nothing has been done.

Jabbar said that he personally met gas relief and rehabilitation and public health and family welfare prinicpal secretary DS Mathur and secretary Ms Anshu Vaish with a view to apprise them about the situation. a letter was also written to the minister Arif Aqueel in this regard. Even collector SK Vashisht and municipal commissioner DP Tiwari were also apprised about the situation. Jabbar reminded that similar situation arose in June 1998 when nine people died and more than 250 were hospitalised. hence a repeat of the tragedy should be avoided by taking up corrective measures on time, Jabbar added.
