Gas victims welcome a friend of their cause

DOMINIQUE LAPIERRE, the celebrated French writer whose book on gas tragedy Midnight in Bhopal to be released soon met the destitute and gas victims at Nilam Park here this afternoon.

Earlier, he was accorded a warm welcome at Bhopal railway station. A group of gas victims danced to the tune of band welcoming him.

From the railway station he along with the European media troupe accompanying him arrived at the Nilam Park.

Balkrishna Namdeo of the Gas Peedit Nirashrit Morcha welcomed Lapierre. The organisation member garlanded the foreign media team and the French writer.

Lapierre in his brief address, expressed concern for the gas victims and informed them about the humanitarian work he had started in Bhopal.

Namdeo appreciated the financial assistance from Lapierre and his co-author of the book on Bhopal gas tragedy Javier Moro.

Lapierre also enquired about the rehabilitation works and discussed the compensation other related issues.

Later they went to Minto hall, the old Vidhan Sabha building where Ustad Abdul Latif Khan's Sarangi recital enthralled them.

Tomorrow, Lapierre will attend the Republic Day celebrations at the Lal Parade ground in the morning. In the afternoon he will inaugurate the Dominique Lapierre - City of Joy Sambhavana Gynecological clinic funded by him.
