On the occasion of the 32nd Anniversary of the Union Carbide disaster in Bhopal, hundreds of survivors marched with flaming torches to the memorial statue of the gas affected mother opposite the Union Carbide factory. They paid homage to those killed by the disaster at the end of the rally. Residents of the communities next to the Union Carbide factory where the ground water is contaminated by hazardous chemical waste were also part of the march.

Press Conference

With the 32nd Anniversary of the World’s worst industrial disaster on December 3rd, five organisations of survivors of the Union Carbide disaster in Bhopal jointly addressed a Press Conference today. They said that the disaster is still ongoing and the generations born after the disaster are also marked by the poisons that leaked from the American multinational’s pesticide factory. The organisations said that the factory abandoned by the corporation is still killing and maiming people due to poisoning of groundwater from reckless dumping of toxic waste during its 14 years of operation prior to the disaster.

3 दिसंबर को विश्व के भीषणतम औद्योगिक हादसे की 32 वीं बरसी के उपलक्ष्य में भोपाल में यूनियन कार्बाइड गैस हादसे के पीड़ितों के पाँच संगठनों ने संयुक्त रूप से आज एक पत्रकार वार्ता को संबोधित किया। उन्होंने कहा कि ये हादसा आज भी जारी है और हादसे के बाद पैदा हुई पीढ़ियाँ बहुराष्ट्रीय अमरीकी कंपनी के कीटनाशक कारख़ाने के जहरों से पीड़ित हो रही हैं। संगठनों ने कहा कि कंपनी के द्वारा परित्यक्त कारखाना आज भी इंसानों की जान ले रहा है और उन्हें अपंग कर रहा है। उनका कहना था कि कारख़ाने के चलने के 14 सालों में बने हज़ारों टन ज़हरीले कचरे को जमीन के नीचे दबा देने की वजह से उसके आस-पास का भूजल प्रदूषित हो रहा है।
