Letter to PM Modi: Instruct CBI to Take Harsher Measures Against Dow

Sub: Instruct CBI to take harsher measures against The Dow Chemical Company (TDCC) in the ongoing criminal matter (MJC 91/92) on Bhopal disaster

Dear Mr. Prime Minister,

On behalf of the survivors of the 1984 Union Carbide gas disaster in Bhopal we wish to share with you the good news that due to the initiative of the survivors and support from the international community it has been possible for us to collect within 30 days, 100, 000 signatures on a petition to the US President demanding that the US Department of Justice serve the Bhopal District Court’s notice upon The Dow Chemical Company (TDCC), USA so that it appears in the ongoing criminal case on the disaster on July 13, 2016. As per the order of the Bhopal court, TDCC is expected to explain to the court why it has not made its 100 % subsidiary Union Carbide Corporation appear in the ongoing criminal case on the Bhopal disaster.

Scottish Trades Unions’ Solidarity with Bhopal

A delegation of Scottish Trade Unioni activists addressed a rally today in Bhopal support of the survivors’ 30 years of campaigns for justice. The delegation is in response to a visit by survivors to Scotland and a motion of solidarity from the Scottish Trade Union Congress disabled workers’ conference.

Bhopal Survivors historical victory; Government to revise disaster related figures

Survivors of the Union Carbide disaster in Bhopal ended their protest at Jantar Mantar last evening after assurance by the Minister of Chemicals and Fertilizers of meeting their demands. Five women survivors and their supporter broke their water-less fast on the fourth day with sips of water offered by Joint Secretary AJV Prasad who came to the protest site.

September 18, 2014: Survivors chained themselves to the Chief Minister’s residence demanding adequate compensation and intervention in US court for clean up of toxic waste

April 28, 2014: Torch rally on International Workers Memorial Day.

February 17, 2014: Demonstration at the Directorate of Bhopal Gas Tragedy Relief & Rehabilitation demanding free medical care and rehabilitation.
