Mumbai, May 26: Lending her voice to support actor Aamir Khan, whose film “Fanaa” is not being screened in theatres in Gujarat, over his support to the Narmada Bachao Andolan, NBA leader Medha Patkar demanded Central government’s intervention in the matter.
“Anyone who has been associated with us has faced the same fate. Aamir Khan has also faced the same ostracization,” Patkar told reporters here at a sit-in to protest against the plight of slum dwellers in the city.
Film-maker Anand Patwardhan, and actor Rahul Bose, who also took part in the sit-in, also expressed concern over the ‘Fanaa’ issue, saying “this an attack on the freedom of expression and a sign that the government of Gujarat is moving towards fascism.”
Patkar also demanded that the Central government intervene in the matter.
She also accused the Maharashtra government of a conspiring to hush up an investigation into the rehabilitation of Sardar Sarovar Dam affected villages, saying “just because there is a Congress government at the Centre and in the state there has been no investigation into whether rehabilitation has taken place or not.”
