Vietnam News Agency starts Agent Orange victim fund

VIETNAM NEWS AGENCY, JULY 20, 2006
HA NOI — Vietnam News Agency (VNA) has established a fund “For the Victims of Agent Orange” to call for assistance from local and international donors for Agent Orange/dioxin victims in Viet Nam.
The fund, which will come into operation in August, will be used to support the victims of the toxin used during the war, organisations or centres that care for the victims and localities where there are a high number of victims.
To raise funding for its operation, VNA last year held a photo exhibition portraying victims’ suffering. The agency collected nearly VND50 million (US$3,100) which was given to victims in Ha Noi and other provinces.
VNA also published a photo book on the same topic to present to the Viet Nam Association for Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin.
VNA Deputy General Director and Editor-in-Chief of Viet Nam News newspaper Tran Mai Huong has been nominated as head of the fund’s management board.
For any information or contributions, please contact Mr Tran Dang Son on 0913225808 or 04-9332226, or fax any request to 04-9332312.
Donations can be deposited in VNA Publishing House’s bank account: 10201 00000 37042, Viet Nam Industrial and Commercial Bank. — VNS
